Personal Bio
I have been involved in gun dog training from the day I acquired my first German Shorthaired Pointer puppy named Maggie. That was over 9 years ago! As an avid upland hunter I had never had a real gun dog before so Maggie was going to be my dream dog. I immediately started reading books and buying videos on training bird dogs.
I had basic obedience trained all of our pet dogs as a kid growing up (my father always thought I would be a dog trainer when I grew up, my wife is still waiting for the latter).
Over the next few months I worked with Maggie on obedience and prep training for her gun dog school training. At 6 months of age I dropped Maggie off at a local trainer to begin her 90-day training program.
At this point my wife and I already agreed we would get another GSP when Maggie reached a year old or so. I really wanted to be able to train my next dog myself, so I spent every spare moment I could at the trainer’s facility to soak up as much of the information and techniques as I could. (I did not realize at the time how fortunate I was, due to the fact the trainers I know today do not/will not spend time with their clients to show them what they are doing and how they are doing it).
I continued to work with Maggie when she returned from boot camp and has been and still is a phenomenal dog in the field.
As my pack grew (6 GSP’S and 1 BLACK LAB) I would do more & more of the training myself, taking the dog to a professional trainer whenever I hit a snag that I had not been able to overcome.
As time went on friends and family started requesting for my help in training their dogs. (meaning: Would you train my dog for me?) Excited about the results they all stated, I should start training professionally, so to make a short story even longer: Gun Dogs “R” Us was born and I am enjoying it even more than I thought I would!
